Carlisle have moved in to sign Oliver Norwood from Manchester United. He joins Carlisle United on a one month loan deal. They moved for him after it was revealed that their team captain Paul Thirlwell was out injured for four months.

Norwood, already an Northern Ireland International, has been labelled the 'the next Beckham', following his own admission that he would like to be like Beckahm and hoped to achieve what he did at United, and also given his exceptional talents with set pieces. He joins fellow United loanee James Chester at the club.

Oliver Norwood has been tipped to have a great future at Old Trafford by Northern Ireland manager Nigel Worthington, he expects big things from the lad. “The lad is a genius,” said Worthington. “He is going to be a very good player. What he can do with the ball from free-kicks is remarkable. You always know that eight or nine times out of 10, he is going to score when he places the ball for a free-kick.”

Speaking after completing the signing, United manager Greg Abbott said: "Olly is another good one with an excellent background, and his cap at international level shows how highly thought of he is.

"Technically he is excellent and this will give him a good opportunity to get in and around first team football."

Norwood could make his debut against Brighton as a straight replacement for Thirlwell this weekend.
