A One Club Man and a Legend

He ticks all the boxes when it comes to being a perfect fan's player, most City and Liverpool fans hate his very breath, and he gladly reciprocates this love! One of the longest serving players at the club, he’s been playing for us since his debut in September 1992 against Torpedo Moscow.

Well if you haven’t guess yet, I’m talking about Gary Neville, probably one of a rare bunch of players, a ‘One Club Man’, he’s also one the most vociferous fans at the club, not one to shy away from displaying his affection for the Red of United.

Almost 18 years to the month since his debut, Gary Neville has been an exceptional player for the team, stacking up 398 league appearances and 117 champions league appearances over the years, he’s made a total of 599 appearances for United and is currently the second longest serving player at the club after Ryan Giggs.

He’s also the most capped Right Back for England having won 85 caps; he was undisputedly England’s No. 1 right back for more than 10 years and had he not been unlucky with Injuries, he would most likely have picked up several more caps. His loyalty to United is exemplary; his passion for the club is what one would love to see in every player who puts on the Red Jersey, players’ like Gary are almost non-existent today.

Gary is blessed with excellent positional play and a great tackling; he was an excellent defender during his prime, easily the best right back in England and one of the best in Europe. Sir Alex has himself admitted that had Neville been a few more inches taller, he’d have been one of England’s finest Centre back’s ever.

As Gary nears the last year(s) of his career at United, Gary has been a brilliant servant for the club, a player who people will remember; He’s won almost everything there is to win with the team, he has 8 Premier league medals, 3 FA Cups, 2 Champions Leagues and several other trophies. He took over from Roy Keane as the Club captain and has been the captain since. Gary will be remembered for his displays of passion on the pitch, which typified his game. a perfect example of this was after United victory Over Liverpool at Old Trafford in 2006 when ran towards Liverpool fans celebrating after Rio Ferdinand had scored an injury time winner against Liverpool. Though it didn’t go down well with most Liverpool fans, it is always great to see such moments, a more recent example was the smooch he gave Scholesy following his injury time winner against City in April of this year.

Gary Neville for me is what I wish every united player was like, a person who wears the United Colors with pride and a passion. He’s clearly a fan favorite at Old Trafford and is going to join the elite list of Legends who have graced the Theatre of dreams.
